I used to be the sole editor of "The College Buzz" and I am now one of the editors here at "Snapback Rap." I'm always on the lookout for new music and I'll keep you updated on all the freshest tracks and news from the hip-hip world. Stay tuned for some great music.
This new mixtape from the 18 year old phenom Cris Cab was released just minutes ago and to be completely honest, I am giving it my first listen as we speak. I am a huge fan of Cris and he delivers some of his best material to date on this tape. Now I know it isn’t hip-hop, but a little variety never hurt anyone and Cris’ reggae style and laid back vocals will certainly remedy any stressful schedule. Download “Echo Boom” below, sit back, and chill!
Vizzy blessed us with a new track yesterday and continues to prove his worth in the rap game. So far, XV has been one of the most impressive underground artists this year, consistently dropping hit after hit. This track features a sample from Chaka Khan who was also sampled on Kanye West’s “Through The Wire” and seems to have the perfect vocal complexion for sampling. Either way, Vizzy rips yet another track, so head right to the download below. Enjoy!
I’m sure many of you haven’t heard of Cypher Clique yet, but hey that’s what I am here for. Now I have had contact with this group since my early days at The College Buzz and they sent me this video a couple weeks ago. I was late on getting it up because, let’s be honest, finals is a busy time. This video for their latest track “The Message” has been catching a pretty big buzz around the net, and Cypher Clique is finally getting the recognition they deserve. They are a Delaware collective trying to bring hip-hop back to its roots, which is the direction I would love to see hip-hop go in the future. Check out the video, decide for yourself, and be sure to get the track below!
YES OH MY GOD! Skrillex dropped this track today after various bootleg live versions had been swimming around the web. He puts his always incredible spin on a nearly flawless track to begin with, “Levels” by Avicii. Luckily this track surfaced just in time for your weekend activities, so download it below and crank the volume to 11.
‘Tis the season. Cam Groves, a good friend and P. Dank labelmate of Maine’s Spose, dropped this holiday track just moments ago and I’m definitely a fan of non-traditional Christmas music. This is a witty, funny, and overall enjoyable track for your listening pleasure. Check out the video and download the track.
P.S. – I am feeling generous yet again, so check out Spose’s chilling Christmas story below. You definitely want to listen to this whole song as it is guaranteed to give you chills, trust me on this one.
So this week I dug up one of my all time favorite Wiz Khalifa songs for our Throwback Thursday feature. “Pittsburgh Sound” is a song that Wiz released on his first project Show and Prove back in 2007. Unlike the majority of Wiz Khalifa listeners, I have been a fan since way before Black and Yellow ever existed. Now I’m no genius, but let’s just say I know talent when I see it and I knew this guy had a real future. Since I’m feeling generous for the second week in a row, here’s another older Wiz Khalifa song that will hopefully inspire you to do some digging into the Taylor Gang archives. Enjoy!
It’s that time of the week again, the day where we here at Snapback Rap give you a timeless hip-hop track to hopefully help you build you a more comprehensive music library. This week I picked a track that is the definition of hip-hop…seriously, the song is literally a definition of hip-hop throughout the ages. Common takes what appears to be a love story and flips it into one of the greatest plot twists that rap has ever heard. “I Used To Love H.E.R.” plays out beautifully, cleverly detailing the story of hip-hop and where it will be headed (or where it was headed when the track was recorded). So listen to this track and enjoy it if you have never heard it before. As a bonus, I threw in an updated version that is just as brilliant…you’re welcome.
Here’s is a new mixtape from an up-and-coming Massachusetts rapper named Ricky Genius. I found this mixtape through a friend of his on Facebook and, to be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting much from it (you know how local rappers can be). But to my surprise, this tape is real impressive from start to finish and proves that he isn’t “just another rapper.” Genius showcases his talents over a variety of classic hip-hop beats from Nicki Minaj to Mos Def and even to Lil B. There’s not too many original beats on the tape, but I can ensure you this project will get his name out there and, with the right amount of publicity, the producers will start pouring in. I don’t know too much about Ricky Genius, but I look forward to seeing what is in this kid’s future. Hopefully there will be plenty of mixtapes and albums coming soon, but for now enjoy this mixtape, check out some tracks below, and download “Just Anotha Rapper” in its entirety from the link below.
This mixtape was put out just a short time ago by a very talented Delaware MC, I.N.X. I learned about this man back in my College Buzz days through the hip-hop collective Poetics Scholars, a group that I.N.X. is a part of. I was impressed right off the bat with this project as he continues to bring the “real” back to hip-hop with an old-school flow and well-crafted lyricism. The tape is best served as an entire project that is listened to from start to finish, so check out a few of the tracks below, but be sure to get the whole project below to see why I have so much faith in this up-and-coming MC.
Finally, Mr. Posner has blessed his fans with yet another MUST download mixtape. This time, he tackles a few well known tracks such as “Wonderwall” by Oasis, “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, and “The Scientist” by Coldplay just to name a few. He also handles much of the stellar production himself and recruits some big names to lay down verses on a few of the tracks. Whether you are and R&B fan, pop fan, hip-hop fan, or just a fan of music in general, you are guaranteed to find something that tickles your fancy on this mixtape so check a few of my favorite tracks below and download it in its entirety for your listening pleasure.
